Back in training - but the goals keep floating away and it's a tad choppy
Swimming pools remain closed as the UK’s lockdown restrictions continue, but that was not stop going to stop a water polo team’s members getting back to action when team training rules were relaxed.
Worthing Swimming Club’s water polo players took advantage of the slight relaxation in the rules – and trained in the sea.
The lockdown had ruled out any team sport training since March. Alastair Roberts, one of the club coaches, said: “The opportunity of training in the pool is obviously not possible but we were pleased to run our first session in the sea, directly south of our home pool at Splashpoint.
“Following the latest protocols, two groups of six (one of boys, one of girls) followed the social distancing rules and trained for just under an hour.
“It was a touch colder than we are used to and the goals had a habit of floating away at times, but everyone who took part was just delighted to be back in the water.
“We have to check the tides and the weather forecast but we are hoping to make this a regular occurrence throughout the summer.”
