The track had been due to swing back into action on Thursday (Feb 13) afternoon after losing its last fixture to the wet weather ten days ago.

But continued recent rainfall has left ‘false patches’ on the racecourse and officials had to admit defeat in attempts to get their latest meeting on.

A statement said: “The ground is heavy, wet in places and is currently unraceable. Customers can contact us via [email protected] for refunds / exchanges.”

Fontwell staff will now turn their full attention to the big one on Sunday week (February 23) – the National Spirit Hurdle, their richest race of the year.

A stellar line-up is expected for the feature race.
