Horsham Blue Star scoop impressive gold medal haul in Surrey

The Sussex & Surrey Indoor Track & Field Championships took place in Carshalton and saw Blue Star athletes come away with five gold, four silver and two bronze medals.

The long jump produced two of these with Cleo Tomlinson winning the U17 women’s event with a leap of 5.57m to set a new championship best whilst in the U13 boys event, Harry Long left it to his final jump to record a PB of 4.42m to take gold and set a new championship best.

Lucas Crabb secured bronze in this event with a leap of 3.62m.

Hari Brogan cleared 1.85m to win the U17 men’s high jump and in the U15 girls high jump Kyla Ball cleared a new PB of 1.50m to secure victory.

The other gold came in the U17 men’s pole vault where Dan Dearden cleared 4.10m.

The U15 girls 60m hurdles event saw two Blue Stars in the final. Phoebe Penston and Madeleine Way took silver and bronze with Penston running 10.12s and Way 10.16s.

The 60m final in the same age group saw Way edged into second by just four hundreths of a second, running 8.22s, with Ball finishing fifth in 8.51s.

Way had earlier finished fourth in the long jump with a PB leap of 4.61m and Ball jumped 4.52m to take fifth.

In the U15 boy’s pole vault, Ted Lane jumped a PB 2.50m to take silver, with Renee Bassin also securing silver in the U17 women’s shot with a throw of 8.48m.

Sophie Hogton finished fourth in the U17 women’s 60m hurdles, running 9.79s, having earlier set a new PB in the long jump with a leap of 4.89m to finish fourth.
