Chichester’s young guns rounded off 2015 on a positive note with a 50-17 home National Colts Cup win against Berkshire outfit Redensians, whose senior first team play in National League division two.

Chi, in red, immediately showed their attacking intent and Hutchin hit a great line. Soon, Brereton got a good early score. Hutchin converted.

Prior smashed over the gain line and Stirrup moved the ball well. Grace controlled the phases and Hutchin got on the outside of his opposite number and timed a pass to Spreckley, who exploded down the right wing and fended off the full-back to go over near the posts.

Redensians looked startled but their bigger forwards started to carry well. The No12 ghosted past weak defence and they crashed over to make it 14-7.

After a period of even play, Redensians started to kick to relieve the pressure. Spreckley caught the ball inside his 22, jinked in-field and hurtled past the defence for an amazing 60m score.

Redenisans rallied ande the away scrum-half scampered over to pull the score back to 19-12.

After strong words at half-time, Chi immediately went through the gears. Quinton carried strongly and Constable started to get behind the visiting defence with excellent runs off the shoulder of fly-half Grace.

Quick ball and a well-organised forward platform saw three quick tries follow to carve out a lead of 38-14. Renwick and Hutchin both mastered conversions.

Redensians pulled a try back but the Chi onslaught kept on coming, with Crosby-Wilshire off the bench chopping down any away threat and Gallimore showing some very strong runs as Chi ran in two further tries with the final conversion bringing up the 50 points.

Chi colts are in a strong position in the Sussex Premier League and both the Sussex and national cup.

January is a big month with a home national cup game versus Ruislip or Camberley on January 10, a league visit to Brighton a week later and the Sussex Cup quarter-final versus Pulborough on Sunday 24.
