Paul stands tall for Stringers

McCreadie said: 'I had ten captains out there tonight and every one has done me proud. They worked their socks off for each other and I think we definitely deserved our win.

'My captain Paul Richardson was excellent as goalkeeper replacement. He made some excellent saves and his kicking was great.

'We went into a 3-4-2 shape and kept the line high. You wouldn't have known which team had ten men.

'The sending off was justified, I have no complaints. Russell was the last man and so had to go.' Town were leading 2-0 when Tanner was dismissed in first-half stoppage time for clattering Joe McCarthy on the edge of the penalty area.

The Stringers had taken the lead after just 90 seconds when Stuart Lewis volleyed home from 25 yards.

Soon after Peter Cooper should have scored with a close-range header while Peter Baker struck Sidley's best effort against the post.

On 37 minutes Cooper redeemed himself by turning Graham Morris on the edge of the box and striking a low shot across goal to double Hailsham's advantage.

Sidley did eventually break Richardson's resistance on 85 minutes. He did well to tip Baker's free-kick onto the post but Keith Miles was on hand to steer home the rebound.

Afterwards McCreadie said: 'Things are going well here. The reserves fielded six youth players the other night and the youngsters are coming through. We are getting real strength in depth.'

PETER Cooper and Martin Richardson finally broke the deadlock of a dour game to give the Stringers all three points at The Beaconsfield on Friday.

Cooper made the breakthrough on 67 minutes from the penalty spot. The striker had broken through when brought down by Redhill's Mark Townsend and got up to fire low to send goalkeeper Pete Davies the wrong way.

Six minutes later Steve Hunt, returning after an eight-month injury layoff, beat his marker twice before cutting the ball back for Richardson to sidefoot high into the net.

Hailsham had earlier been denied a penalty for a blatant trip on Simon Stevens when he was through on goal.

McCreadie said: 'Redhill came with a game plan and it nearly worked. We had a chat at half-time and the effort and commitment of the boys was unbelievable.'

PEACEHAVEN boss Darren Guirey is worried about the chances that are going begging despite the cup win over Saltdean reserves on Friday.

Guirey said: 'We murdered them but missed a hatful again. It's a problem at the moment but one of these days they will all go in. I must say our football was excellent.'

Ryan Walton put Peacehaven ahead in the opening 15 minutes when he beat two men before driving home from a difficult angle.

Luke Martin got the second after the interval when his corner went straight into the Saltdean net.

Walton missed a penalty when he blasted over after Jason Stepney had been fouled.

CHRIS Stanyard scored twice as Town outplayed Westfield on Saturday. Stanyard opened the scoring on 19 minutes when he slotted in after good work by Tristan Jobe.

It was the same combination who combined for Stanyard to net on the hour and the double goalscorer then set up substitute Tom Callaghan for the third moving towards added time.

Manager Duncan Kneller made only one change from the previous week's winning side when Ben Dartnall came into midfield, with Sam Hamblin moving up alongside Jobe and Callaghan dropping to the bench.

NEWHAVEN went back to the top of the table with what manager Jason Tighe described as a 'comfortable' win on Saturday.

Tighe said: 'We could have had three or four before we scored our first. We bossed them all over the park.

'It's great to be top of the table and there's a real buzz all over the club.

'Sean Breach was man of the match on Saturday, he was outstanding and broke up all their play.'

Gary Holmes gave Newhaven the lead on 36 minutes. Chris Georgiou found Ross Newman, who beat two men and crossed. Simon Halsey got a slight flick on the ball before Holmes rifled it in.

The experienced Georgiou got the second on 53 minutes after a great build-up. Georgiou beat the offside trap and saw his first effort hit the post before he volleyed in the rebound.

Miss of the match came from Halsey from two yards when a cross into the penalty area hit him on top of the head.

Tighe is hoping Kevin Marchesi (back) and Pete Botting (thigh) will be fit to face Brighton Electricity in the Intermediate Cup tomorrow, but the manager is doubtful with a thigh problem.

WEALDEN midfielder Justin Harris will be absent for two to three weeks after suffering ankle ligament damage in Saturday's full-blooded cup tie.

Manager Mark Simpson said: 'Justin went into a tackle that possibly he shouldn't have done and that was the outcome.'

In addition Chris Johnson has a suspected broken toe as Wealden go to Saltdean in the Division Two Cup tomorrow. Craig Ottley is fit to return after a bug.

Of Saturday's game Simpson said: 'It was a proper cup tie, great value for 3. Bexhill looked a different side to the one we beat 3-1 in the league a short while ago.

'They came and played 4-5-1 and showed great determination. Fortunately our spirit saw us through.

'It looked dodgy when they went 2-1 up but we dug in, got the goal back quickly, took the lead and then kept it.

'I was pleased with our effort, we worked hard.'

Wealden took the lead on 20 minutes when good link-up play with Tobi Hutchinson allowed Wes Tate to outpaced the defence and slot home.

Bexhill equalised through a doubtful penalty award converted by Darren Witham on the half-hour and went ahead ten minutes into the second half through Dave Carey.

On the hour Sean Brownell equalised with an unstoppable header after a well-worked corner between Tate and Steve Davis.

On 73 minutes Davis got the winner as he slid in on Tate's cross.

HIGH-FLYING Crows kept up the pace with a hard-fought win at the Oval on Saturday.

With the wind at their backs Eastbourne worked Crows's back four, Nathan Crabb clipping the top of the crossbar on ten minutes.

Crows's positional play and skills mixed with a more determined mood started to show and on 25 minutes skipper Craig Bishop rose above everyone to head home Chamberlain's corner. In the second half Crows took some time to get going with the wind to their advantage until Clarke beat three defenders down the right and pulled his cross back only for Ransome to fire over.

In the 61st minute Crows went two up. Body's left-wing cross was flapped at by Oldroyd and Godden and Clarke at the far post both went up, Clarke getting the final touch for a rare headed goal.

On 70 minutes United got a lifeline when Harris curled a free-kick into the far corner. Crows should have added to the scoreline when Body's free-kick was only parried by Oldroyd but no Crows player followed up.
