Plan devised by coaches to keep Funmi

SIZZLING sprinter Olufunmi Sobodu is to stay a Worthing Harrier after all '” despite moving 100 miles away with his family this week to Colchester in Essex.

The World Schools and AAA Under-17 sprint champion is one of the hottest 16-year-olds in British junior athletics after his first full year in the sport. But he spoke to the Herald this summer about choosing a senior club. Wood Green was the favourite but that is an 80-mile round trip from Colchester.

Now a plan is in place. Sobodu's coach at Harriers, Alan Denyer, explained: "The good news is that Funmi will still compete for Worthing. Elite Performance coach Mike McFarlane of UK Athletics will be helping me look after Funmi from a distance."
