Plume - and Boy George - will make it a colourful night at Goodwood

Goodwood's series of Friday evening meetings kicks off with a six-card preceding a set from Boy George.

Racing begins at 6.15 and the Culture Club legend takes centre stage just after 9pm, soon after the final race.

Goodwood racecourse MD Adam Waterworth told the Observer he was excited to see how the first in the series of three racing/DJ nights would go. It’s followed by a Chris Evans set on June 10 and Mark Ronson on June 17.

“Advance sales for all three have been picking up nicely and we expect tickets to go faster as each night approaches. We’re likely to have a sell-out in the Richmond Enclosure for the Mark Ronson night,” said Waterworth.

“It’ll be very interesting to see how they go, but we’re confident we will be delivering something different, something special, which will appeal to many of the people who come racing and, we hope, will attract some new people to the racecourse.

“The standard of racing is good on these Friday evenings – the first one, for example, ends with a Class 3 six-furlong handicap.

“We’ve been practising the art of converting the parade ring from an area for horses into a dance floor, and the winner’s enclosure into a bar. We have about a 15-minute turnaround time for that so it’s been like Challenge Anneka, but we’re getting faster with each practice run!

“It’ll be a fabulous setting for what should be a superb series of shows. I’ve had a sneak preview of the light show that will accompany the music and it’s stunning.”

On the track, Plume looks an interesting proposition in the British Stallion Studs Supporting British Racing EBF Fillies’ (Handicap).

She was viewed as a Classic hope at the start of last term but failed to hit those kind of heights. Formerly with Richard Hannon, the four-year-old will be having her first start for Roger Teal and a change of scenery could have reinvigorated her enthusiasm.
