Race ace Denis reels in rivals to scoop Ginetta Cup

After a couple of tough races in the British GT Championship, Midhurst ace Dan Denis entered the UK round of the GT4 European Cup, featuring top GT drivers from across Europe.

The race weekend format consisted of two qualifying sessions, two 25-minute races and one 50-minute endurance race including a pitstop.

Despite quick form in testing, Denis struggled to replicate this in qualifying with 11th, eighth and 12th in the three sessions giving him his starting place.

In race one he avoided a spinning Aston Martin to move up to ninth. Further round he passed British GT driver Ollie Jackson in a Lotus Evora.

Denis was in a tussle with the Aston Martins of Dennis Retera and James Appleby, eventually finishing seventh.

In race two Denis had a great start but ended fifth behind Stuart Hall’s Lotus.

For the final race, Denis was involved in a tussle with the Chevrolet Camaro of Donald Molenaar and the three Ginetta G50s of Ranauer, Jirasek and Rattenbury. Denis pitted but a radio failure meant it was hard to time the stop.

Denis then put in his fastest laps of the weekend to catch the Jirasek Ginetta and cross the line in seventh.

He was the highest-scoring Ginetta G50 in all three races, so won the Ginetta Cup.

Denis is back to British GT duties at Brands Hatch this weekend.
