The club sent a team of novice, intermediate and advanced-level gymnasts to the annual Uckfield invitational and returned with five medals.

Analyn Luther and Oliver Collins, both competing at intermediate level, took home bronze medals, while Cody Matijuk took second place in the novice seven-years category and Stanley Burgess scooped silver in the nine-years advanced boys’ group, his first time competing at this level.

Rosie Capper performed brilliantly on both floor and vault to win the advanced 12-14 girls category.

The club’s top gymnasts travelled to Crawley for the Sussex championships, the first year Regis gymnasts have been eligible to compete against the best in the county.

The team of six gymnasts certainly did not perform like first-timers. Johan and Willem Keijser-Petch both won their categories to be crowned county champions, with Johan also taking home a shield for the highest boys’ floor score of the day.

Molly Wilby scooped gold in her bronze level category with a very clean performance across both pieces, while Bethany Dugdale, Daisy-May Jones and Annie-Rose Mitchell took fourth, fifth and sixth respectively in their large group.

All were competing at these levels for the first time.

The gym has been undergoing the second phase of an £120,000 refurbishment and will be re-opening at the beginning of September.

Head coach Anna King said: “These were brilliant competitions for us in spite of training around the building works for the past few weeks.

“Once the fitout is complete, we will be able to offer a much wider range of gymnastics and state-of-the-art equipment – the sky is the limit!”

Interested gymnasts should contact Anna on 07799 836341 or see www.regisgymnastics.com
