Right royal race night in prospect at Fontwell Park

Fontwell Park race-goers are in for a royal treat - a race meeting on the day Prince William marries Kate Middleton.

The venue stages its first evening meeting of 2011 on Friday, April 29, which has been named the day of the royal wedding at Westminster Abbey and has been declared a bank holiday.

Fontwell general manager Phil Bell said they were delighted and were planning some special events on the day to celebrate the future king tying the knot.

“We’re not too sure what we’ll do yet but we will be dreaming up some royal themes - and we’re open to suggestions from punters,” he said.

“It’s just a shame we may have left it a little late to see if the couple want to hold the reception here!”

Any horses with a royal name are sure to be well-backed on the day and it’s not impossible that The Queen could have a runner in one of the races.

There’ll also be music on a Take That/Robbie Williams theme. It’s one of three evening meetings pencilled into the 2011 calendar at Fontwell.
