The Chichester High School student first came on to the radar of the club when she won the district’s Youth Sport Achievement award, sponsored by Rotary, three years ago.

Since then the Rotary Club have followed with great interest her achievements on the slopes of Europe and have granted her a sports bursary to help with her training and equipment costs.

The club were delighted to hear of Yasmin’s recent achievements in both Lillehammer at the Winter Youth Olympics and the British Championships in Tignes.

She was able to spare the time to address club members at a recent meeting. Sporting her international tracksuit she thrilled the audience by recounting her achievements of the past few months. She is a young international whose future prospects look very promising.

This was the first time Cooper had spoken in public and she considered the prospect more daunting than some of her major championships.

Graham Jessop of the Rotary Club said: “The club were particularly impressed by Yasmin’s commitment and dedication, the recognition of the need to maintain her academic studies and the modesty with which she conducted herself. She truly is a model sportswoman.

“The evening was special not only because of Yasmin’s presence but because some 40 invited guests who had helped at Rotary events over the previous 12 months, including the Dragon Boat, the 10k road race, the boxing event and the Beaujolais charity lunch, were in attendance.

“All were extremely grateful and impressed by someone so talented but so young.”

Cooper is off to training camps in Chile and Europe and Rotarians wished her every success in the future, especially with her next goal, the Winter Olympics in South Korea. They were pleased to make a bursary to help with her expenses.
