Bognor RFC ready for a new start

Bognor Rugby Club are putting the disappointments of last year well and truly behind them as they look forward to a new season in London three south west.

Lessons have been learned from relegation and the new coaching and the management team are determined the first XV will once again be a force to reckon with, and that all four sides will be extremely competitive within their own leagues.

New chairman Martin Eley brings with him vast experience of Sussex rugby and he has set high expectations of success at all levels over the next 12 months.

Attendance at training has been excellent, head coach Karl Flinn placing the early emphasis very much on fitness not frills.

Pre-season friendlies include clashes with London Irish, Dorking, Horsham and Pulborough before the first league game at home to Eastleigh on September 15.

A strong squad has been retained and the club are delighted Lee Balchin will continue as first-team captain for the third successive year.

The other captains elected at the recent annual meeting were Jonny Lang and Lee Hammond (seconds), Dave Parsons (thirds) and Martin Broome (fourths).

Any new players interested in joining the club should turn up at Hampshire Avenue any Tuesday or Thursday at 7pm for training or they can contact director of rugby Leighton Thomas on 07841 436327.
