Charley cheers up Chi as cup loss is forgotten

Charley Wilson-Blakely bagged a hat-trick as Chichester City Ladies took out their recent cup frustrations on a Brislington side struggling for form and returned to the top of the table with a 4-0 win in FA Women's Premier south-west one.

Chichester were quick out of the blocks and after just two minutes, Wilson-Blakely stormed through on goal – but keeper Tallulah Wheeler made a good save.

Moments later Laura Ingram deservedly put the Green Army in front. Ingram rose well to power a header goalward from a corner taken by Lucy Challen and, with the aid of a deflection, the ball flew in.

Chichester doubled their lead on nine minutes when Wilson-Blakely dopened her account for the day with a superb chip over Wheeler following an errant attempt at a clearance by the Brislington keeper. Her effort was intercepted by Molly Clark, who lobbed the ball back into the danger area, and Wilson-Blakely applied the finish.

Brislington did have a few chances with Adele Brown and Emily Pulmar both pulling the trigger but Sally-Anne Thompson had little problem dealing with the attempts on goal.

Not long after the half-hour, City had a third through the impressive Wilson-Blakely. Chichester launched a quick counter-attack through Challen, who put Cherelle Khassal into the clear down the left. Khassal drove towards the area and placed a lovely ball into the box, where Wilson-Blakey met the low cross first time to bury a shot into the bottom corner of the net.

After the break, with floodlights starting to shine brightly, Chichester continued to control proceedings. Chloe Parkes and Lauren Cheshire came off the bench to replace tiring legs and only excellent goal-line clearances from Chloe Rogers and excellent keeping from Wheeler kept the resurgent Chichester at bay.
