Is the future black and white for Toon trialist Prior?

JASON PRIOR is proving a hit on Tyneside as he edges closer to earning a contract with Newcastle United.

The Rocks striker scored an impressive goal as the Magpies reserves beat Wigan 3-1 on Tuesday afternoon.

It was a superbly-executed strike to boot as he rifled the ball into the top corner after a pass from Greg McDermott.

What’s more, it was in front of the watching Toon management team of Alan Pardew, John Carver and Steve Stone.

Magpies reserve team Manager Willie Donachie was delighted Prior had scored in his first appearance for the club.

Donachie said: “He’s a lovely guy with a great attitude. It’s great having him around - and he’s a goalscorer.”

There have been conflicting reports since Tuesday coming out of Newcastle over whether Toon think he is one for them or may need to look elsewhere for a league club.

Prior – scorer of 95 goals in 124 games for the Rocks – arrived in the north-east last Thursday for a two-week stint.

He was invited for a Magpies trial as he was about to join Conference South side Eastleigh.
