Pagham and Regis serve up a classic game of two halves

Pagham Youth 1 Regis 2000 2

There was little to chose between these local rivals.

On a difficult pitch both teams did well to put on a decent spectacle.

Regis started well but Pagham had the majority of possession in the first half and deservedly took the lead when George Palmer floated a corner over and Joe Hurford rose highest to head home.

This seemed to spur on Pagham and they played some good attacking football without really testing the Regis keeper.

They had the greater possession for the remainder of the half although for Regis Dan Watson hit the bar.

In the second half Regis came out more determined and put Pagham under early pressure and got their rewards with a well-taken equaliser 15 minutes into the half with a great run and strike from Michael Charman.

With ten minutes left they were awarded a free-kick just outside the penalty area.

Charman stepped up and hit a cracking shot that curled away from the keeper’s reach and in to secure victory.

Pagham tried to get back into it but Regis held firm to take the three points.

UNDER-14

Midhurst & Easebourne 2 Predator Tigers 6

With league games off, these two teams arranged a friendly.

Both were in B league last season, with Tigers moving up to A league and Midhurst down to C league for the current campaign.

Midhurst opened the scoring through Sam Cain after eight minutes. Then against the run of play Tigers scored after 28 minutes to even things up.

Midhurst continued to dominate the first half and just before half-time Jake Burtoo scored the home team’s second.

Tigers started the second half much faster than Midhurst and were soon playing the football that showed why they had been promoted to the A league.

They scored two quick goals to go 3-2 up and continued to score against a tired opposition.

Midhurst did manage to pull things together for the last 15 minutes of play and had several shots at goal.

Man of the match was Elliott Taylor.

Rustington Ott 1 Summerley Park Rgrs 8

After a couple of below-par performances, Summerley were back to their best against Rustington Otters.

Summerley showed a commitment and passion to their football which has been missing of late.

They also were playing good passing football, using the full width of the pitch.

Otters were without their top scoring striker and were always on the defensive.

First-half goals from Mepham (2), V Smith, Hand and Yates meant Summerley were 5-0 up at half-time.

A further goal from man-of-the-match V Smith and two more from Hand, giving him his third hat-trick of the season, gave Summerley eight goals by the end.

Otters scored a consolation from a dubious penalty which keeper Sargeant got his fingers to.

Otters played with great spirit, their heads never dropping, and their keeper made some superb saves.

The win keeps Summerley six points clear at the top of the table.

Worthing Minors Ath 1 Pagham Youth 2

Pagham, in their first year of existence, progressed to the semi-final of the Invitation Cup with a hard-fought victory over a determined Worthing side.

Worthing took the lead on 20 minutes when their centre-back ran the length of the pitch and coolly finished past Hambidge in the Pagham goal.

Pagham hit back immediately with a superb passing movement through midfield finished with Rodway passing to Misselbrook, who finished from the edge of the area.

Pagham started the second half the stronger of the two teams with Urbanczyk shooting over when clean through.

Rodway had a strike ruled out for offside even though there was a defender standing on the line.

This spurred on Pagham and on 55 minutes, Misselbrook’s cross was finished by Campbell from close range.

Pagham deserved the win and now face another Worthing side, Worthing Minors Youth, in the semis.

The Pagham man of the match was Harry Oliver.

UNDER-13

Chi City Colts A 7 Worthing Rebels A 0

The Colts progressed to the quarter-finals of the Invitation Cup with a solid win.

They were a awarded an early penalty when Henry White was bundled over in the box. Jack Graham stepped up and converted.

The Rebels reacted well and contained the Colts without causing much attacking threat. The Colts were celebrating further goals before half-time through Charlie Reedman and an unfortunate own goal following a dangerous cross from White.

The second half was one-way traffic and on another day Bailey Ruddick could have scored a hat-trick.

James Cheeseman scored his 13th and 14th goals of the season and George Cody added two more and terrorised his full-back in the process.

The Rebels nearly found a consolation, but a combination of keeper Faulkner and Reedman prevented them.

The faultless Stremes and Smyth played a major role in another clean sheet.

UNDER-12

Predators Youth 0 Barnham Trojans B 2

Predators had greater possession in the first half, winning a succession of corners delivered into the danger area by Harvey Clarke.

But Barnham looked dangerous on the break and scored twice just before the interval.

This pattern continued in the second half as Connor Fellows in goal was called on to make a succession of saves when one-on-one with an advancing forward.

Daniel Hind also impressed defensively with several crunching tackles and clearances under pressure.

Barnham just about deserved to win on the number of chances made.

PREDATORS: Fellows, Burford, Butler, Clarke, Donner, Evans, Hanslip, Hind, McCabe, Sanctuary, Simmonds, Smith, Stanton.
