On the half-hour mark, hooker Paul Mitchell defied the strong wind to find his brother Nigel at the tail of the lineout. Scrum half Billy Toone’s strong drive saw Vee Angelov crashing over. Fly-half Parry calmly slotted the extras.

This was repeated minutes later. Spaniard Perez Ballesteros cut a good line. Gordon Bailey set the ball up and No8 and Karl Flynn was on hand to score.

Jonathan Lang had a strong carry before injury struck. With Matt Cox also carrying hard, Sussex were struggling to hold Bognor.

Kasim, making his second-team debut scrummaged strongly and the police could not hold out as the referee awarded a penalty try. Parry converted for a 21-0 interval lead.

Bognor had the wind in their favour in the second half but were guilty of lowering their intensity and allowing the police back into the game. They duly took the opportunity to score a well-worked try.

Back came Bognor. With the wind at their backs, the ball was moved wide time and time again. Police defended stoutly until a Tom Watson half-break made room for Jack Hornibrook who danced through the defence for a wonderful try. Parry converted.

Parry was influential in the next try as an inch-perfect cross kick was taken superbly by Mike McPartlin who touched down.

Andy Shipp replaced McPartlin and was immediately in the action linking with Watson. He put on the afterburners to scorch over for his first try in ages. Parry converted majestically.

Seventeen-year-old Will Cullen was having a fine game and his searing break from full-back saw him score a fine individual try.

Sussex came back strongly with a try before magnificent passing from player coach Richard Hay saw skipper Tom Spurle waltz over for the final score.
