Rocks midfielder in with chance of Swindon Town contract

Midfielder Matt Wood is in with a chance of winning a professional contract with Swindon Town.

The 20-year-old Rocks player, who lives in Emsworth, is one of 66 players remaining in the nationwide Samsung Win a Pro Contract competition.

The winner will sign a professional contract with League One Swindon in January. Wood impressed scouts at regional trials and has now been invited to attend area trial.

FootballCV head coach Danny Nicholls assessed Carter at his regional trial.

Nicholls said: “Matthew performed well. He impressed us with his ability and we’re looking forward to having another look at him.

“The standard has been very strong so far, so the winner will need to demonstrate that he has the talent to make it as a professional.”

The nationwide competition attracted more than 2,500 entries on www.samsungfootball.co.uk

The 66 players still involved are battling it out to be selected for the final at Swindon’s County Ground in December.
