Seven charity races

HAVE you ever seen an otter race against a hedgehog and a dog? Or a shark sprint alongside a squirrel, a toilet and a bear?

You'll be able to at Southern Water's Super Saturday Irish Race Day, where a charity mascot race is just part of the entertainment.

Folk-rock band the Levellers will also perform live at the race day, which takes place on October 3, at Fontwell Park Race Course, near Arundel, West Sussex.

Before their performance, there will be seven races, a fund-raising lunch, an auction and a raffle, all raising money for seven charities.

They are: WaterAid, Chestnut Tree House children's hospice, Cancer Research UK, NSPCC, RNLI, the Sussex Community Foundation and Awaairebear, an asthma charity.

Southern Water Communications Officer and event organiser Kevin Buck said: "This, our third race day, will be an opportunity for people to get together and enjoy a great day of family entertainment. The mascot race, in particular, provides plenty of laughs."

Tickets for the race day are priced 17 if booked in advance and 20 on the gate. Under-16s go free. To book, please call Fontwell Park on 01243 543335.
