Sharks in the Caribbean: It's a rum do against Jamaica for Sussex

Sussex Sharks were comfortably defeated by 50 runs in the second match of their Caribbean T20 adventure against Jamaica.

The West Indian side won the toss and after electing to bat, piled up 152 for five from their 20 overs. Opener Nkuma Bonner was the main thorn in the Sharks’ side, hitting an unbeaten 66 from only 57 balls. Andre Russell (24), Kennar Lewis (23) and Carlton Baugh (20) all chipped in to inspire their side to the large total.

Naveed Arif Gondal, Mike Yardy, Will Beer and Joe Gatting picked up a wicket apiece before Sussex set about chasing down a large total.

Chris Nash top-scored with 26 and Gatting made 20 but a flurry of wickets in the mid to late order cost the Sharks dear as they were bowled out for 102, four balls short of their allotted overs.

It represented a tough encounter for Sussex but all is not lost in the tournament with two group matches to play. Victory over Combined Campuses & Colleges on Saturday evening could see them move back up to second spot depending on the result of the Barbados against Jamaica clash.

With Barbados beating the Netherlands heavily in their opening match they currently lie in second, trailing the Jamaicans at the summit who have won both of their games. The Sharks are in third with one victory to their name so far.

The clash with CCC is live on ESPN and will be screened in the Spen Cama Pavilion at The PROBIZ County Ground, Hove, which is open from 6pm.

The bar will be open and food available, so why not come and cheer on the Sharks with fellow Sussex supporters?
