Sharp-shooting Strotten hits the bullseye - 18 times in a row

The young member of Aldingbourne & District Target Shooting Club shot a perfect 100 – ten bullseyes in a row – and that came after the final eight shots of his previous card had all hit the bull as well.

It came on his way to winning the Chanctonbury Cup, a competition open to enthusiasts aged up to 21 from across West Sussex which culminated with a shoulder-to-shoulder final at Chichester.

Lewis, who has just turned 12 but was only 11 at the time of his feat, was the talk of local shooting circles after his amazing rounds.

He used his 2.2 rifle to great effect in the championship, which involves a mixture of postal rounds and shoulder-to-shoulder shooting.

Now Lewis, a pupil at Durrington Middle School in Worthing, is looking forward to taking part in his first Under-16 British championship at the famous Bisley range in August.

Dad Ian said: “It was an incredible bit of shooting – everyone was signing his card and congratulating him.

“He loves shooting and wants to go as far as he can in the sport.

“It’s all he talks about.

“He started shooting properly only 18 months ago and was a natural from the start, really.”

Club chairman Roger Ayling said: “Lewis’ performance was great to see.

“To get a bull with a 2.2 rifle is like having to shoot through the hole in a Polo mint.

“We think he’s a special talent and hope he will go far.”
