Siblings achieve notable family double

HASTINGS Priory Colts Adam and Natasha Maharaj-Newman completed an unusual family double during the past week.

Their run glut during the summer reached an identical high last week when both carried their bats with 56 in the colours of Sussex.

Adam, 15, was the first on the draw. Representing Sussex under-15s in a league match at Horntye Park on Wednesday, last week, the William Parker Sports College student opened his team's reply and shared an unbeaten second wicket partnership of 120 as Sussex cruised to a nine-wicket win over Huntingdonshire, whom they had bowled out for 131.

Not to be outdone by her sibling, Natasha also finished undefeated on 56 in her county's seven-wicket friendly victory away to Berkshire on Sunday. Natasha captained the girls' under-13 team that skittled their opponents for 93 and the target was reached in just 11.2 overs.

Adam's top knock took his seasonal run tally to 926 runs. He is an opening batsman for Priory's second string in the Sussex League, captain of their under-16 colts team, a regular member of William Parker's front side and has just finished his debut campaign with Sussex's under-15s possessing an enviable average of 106.

As well as captaining Sussex in her age group, Natasha also represents Priory Colts at under-13 and under-16 level as well as being a regular member of the club's fourth team which plays in the East Sussex League. In only her second full season of competitive cricket, she has already amassed 466 runs during this summer alone.
