Sidley claim battling draw

PLUCKY Sidley United did a tremendous containing job and probably earned the luck that they rode to hold high-flying neighbours Rye & Iden United to a 1-1 draw.

But they were a whisker away from actually pulling off a victory which would have topped even their win at Three Bridges back in August only for former player Shaun Loft to tuck away an 89th minute penalty - nine minutes after Adam Day had stunned the Salts with a crisp opener.

The Blues' equally well-devised and implemented game-plan to pack the midfield and stifle their illustrious hosts' creativity proved highly-effective although the two-man central defence did become increasingly exposed as the game wore on.

Joint manager Andy Laskey said: "I couldn't begrudge them a point in all honesty. I thought they did stick to the game plan well and me and Pete (joint manager Peter Heritage) were very pleased with them really. I think we earned our luck definitely and the result was as good as Three Bridges."
