Singles finals are a success for Bognor darts aces

The Bognor Friday Night Benevolent League's divisional singles knockouts took place at Newtown Social Club.

There was a joint record of 75 players taking part over the three divisions.

Division one saw 30 players step up to the oche. The early rounds saw 180s from Gary Blackwood (BRSA Wanderers), Micky Rowland (POW ‘Z’) and Mark Sheppard (Hunston Hares), who hit two.

The first semi-final saw Sheppard beat Hunston team-mate Andy Stubbs and in the second Rowland lost to Rob Collins.

In the first leg of the final, Stubbs left a finish after 21 darts, but Collins was already on his double and finished with one dart.

Stubbs started the second leg with a ton, but Collins did the same. It was nip and tuck but Collins missed double 12 for an 84 finish, Stubbs left double one, Collins missed again and Stubbs took the leg.

In the decider, after 125 and 140 from Collins. Stubbs left himself a 170 out-shot but Collins was on double top, and hit it with the first dart, taking his second division-one singles title.

Division two saw 25 players take part and a 180 from Alex Norgett (Newtown Amity) illuminated the early rounds.

The first semi-final saw Keith Robinson (Chi Snooker ‘A’) beat Steve Jones. The second ended in a win for Norgett over Alex Richardson (Aldingbourne Mavericks).

In the final Norgett started with the better scores of 100 and 121. Robinson hit back to lead, but with 120 left Norgett stepped up and hit treble 20, single 20 and double 20 to take the first leg. The second leg saw Robinson forge ahead and take the leg in 18 darts.

The last leg saw Norgett start with 120 and Robinson miss doubles and leaviehimself with double one. Norgett was closing in, and managed to hit single one and double two for the division-two title.

Division three saw 20 players take part. Early rounds included a 180 from Dave Juniper (QEII).

The first semi-final saw former division-one champion Richard Pennells (POW Galleon) defeat Lewis Kalli (QEII).

The second was between team mates Stuart Gray and Ashley Clements (POW Galleon). Gray made the final.

In the final, Pennells led early on but Gray caught up near the end of the leg. Pennells hit double top to take leg one.

The second leg saw Gray have the better scores on his way to winning.

Pennells started the last leg with 125 and 100, then when Gray had 76 left, he hit single 16 but missed the single 20 and hit double five.

This left him with the bullseye, but he just missed and hit the 25. Pennells stepped up and hit double five with the first dart, taking the division-three title.

Tuesday Double In Double Out League

Week 20’s best games were played by Andy Whiteley (Claremont Sambas) with 18 and 24 darts and a 23.86 average and Justin Gratwick (Neptune) with 21 and 21 darts (23.86 average).
