Another noteworthy winner was junior George Porter, retaining the handicap trophy when he beat Will Burley, who made great efforts to overcome the considerable points handicap but just fell short.

Jansz’s evening began with a fine win over Jon Corke in the racketball. He followed that with an intriguing veterans’ final, with a handicap system used for the first time. Rod Everett took the title playing his usual high-speed game to defeat Brian Thompson.

Steve Darlington won the plate competition, having too much experience for Porter, who was playing his second final.

The men’s final was between Jansz and experienced past winner Glenn Peskett, but Peskett did not get into his stride as the younger player kept plugging away – and after three exhausting games there was a new men’s champion.

Last up was the men’s doubles, contested by the ubiquitous Jansz, partnering Burley against Steve Carruthers and Jon Corke. A fast and furious match played in a good spirit ended with a 3-1 victory to Jansz and Burley.

The clean sweep for Jansz started earlier in the week when he won the racketball doubles title with Darlington.
