The standard of competition was exceptional with difficulty tariffs reaching more than 15.

Sofija Kalnicenko and Libby Morton were the first flyers to compete, in the under-12 group. Both put on a stunning display of somersaults with twists showing grace and accuracy.

Kalnicenko received a number of zero deductions for her skills finishing a superb fourth out of 58 participants while Morton came a credible 20th in the same group.

In the largest category, 13-14 years, Izzy Hauxwell composed herself to take on 64 opponents, performing two impressive routines and finishing an amazing 15th.

Last of the flyers to perform in the strongest category of the day, 15-16 years, was twice national league and national development finalist Anya Johnston.

Her powerful array of multiple somersaults with many twists challenged the high difficulty and technique of her opposition to finish an astounding seventh.

Johnston and Kalnicenko both qualified for day two’s sudden death finals – a competition of one routine only, requiring the girls to push themselves to their limit and perform their most challenging routine at extreme height in hope of precision, in search of a medal against the very best in their age groups.

Johnston finished a tremendous sixth place while Kalnicenko controlled her nerves in her first international final to finish a pleasing eighth position.

Flyers coaches are very proud of all four girls’ performances –they showed incredible team spirit and sportsmanship.
