Tennis is the perfect to have a smashing new year

A group of regular and dedicated players at Bognor Tennis Club were keen to get back on to the courts to play their first game of 2013.

An all-morning ‘winter warmer’ tournament enticed 20 club members to enter.

To add further interest and diversity to the competitive element, for each of the six 20-minute rounds that were played, all the competitors – ten men and ten women – were teamed with a different partner and drawn against a combination of different opponents.

Throughout the competition the games and points won by each individual player were recorded and, at the end of the competition, these were totalled, enabling a final ranking of all players to be calculated.

In the ladies’ group the highest score was achieved by Pru Ide, closely followed by Sue Dorrell and Sue Briggs, who tied for second place.

In the men’s group, Keith Patterson was narrowly beaten into second place by the highest-scoring man Steve Porter.
