Timber! The end is nigh for Good-Woods
Nyetimber played host to rivals Bognor Goodwoods, but were not very generous when it came to the bowling – beating their visitors 63-19.
Both sides bring a love-hate feeling to the fixture (love to win; hate to lose!) but the game as usual was played in very good spirits.
Mat one saw Nyetimber’s team of Joan Evans, Denise Merritt, Malcolm Rhoder and Arthur Guppy (skip) lost 18-14 to June Hayter, Mary Fair, Brian Goodland and Derek Fair (skip) for Goodwood’s only success.
On mat two, Irene Hathaway, Geoff King, Alan Crew and P Skinner (skip) beat Jean Harbut, Pam Smith, Brenda Jones and Freddie Kaucher (skip) 28-13.
Finally, Peter Evans, Brian Boiling, Jean Leake and Francis Hollebone (skip) beat Marian Goodland, Barry Bains, Brian Williams and Eric Jones (skip) 21-8.
Meanwhile, last Friday, Nyetimber members gathered for annual ladies-versus-gents match, as seen in our photograph.
The men won by three mats to one with a final score of 96-59.
Lavant Red were given a hard time at Chanctonbury Foxes.
Peter Winter’s team scored only four shots over 15 ends, with three shots at the start and four shots at the end doing little to help.
Peter Whale’s team had a similar fate, scoring only occasional single shots to gain nine shots over 15 ends. The scores do not reflect the highly competitive match.
Scores: P Winter, L Kneale, R Peirce, J Simms lost 24-14, P Whale, J Heasman, P Beardmore, R Harding lost 23-13.
Lavant B, at home to Bognor Goodwoods Silver in the plate section of the County KO competition, lost 45-39. Tony Boxall’s team scored well throughout and took a well-earned win. But Bernard Wallsgrove’s team went from bad to worse and lost by 22 shots.
The friendly was won by Lavant by five shots.
