Tray to keep women

THE BOWLING clubs who do not want women playing in the Brodie Tray second-team competition of the town's team fours were defeated at the special general meeting of the Stracey Shield league at Pavilion last Wednesday.

Tarring Priory, Pavilion and Worthing delegates found their proposal for a new, expanded three-tier competition encompassing West Sussex rejected. So the Stracey will stay intact with women retained as optional "selections on merit" by Brodie Tray teams short of male players, as was introduced this year.

While West Tarring, Marine Gardens and Homefield Park, having I understand the mandate from their club membership, voted as expected, to keep women in. But they were joined by Field Place and Lancing, who had both reportedly consulted their membership recently on the issue. Lancing committee's own view had been overturned in the process.
