TRIALS CANCELLED OVER CONCERNS ABOUT FOOT AND MOUTH OUTBREAK

HORSE trials that were due to take place at Borde Hill near Haywards Heath over the weekend of October 6 and 7 have been cancelled because of concern over the ongoing foot and mouth disease outbreak in Surrey.

The organising committee of Borede Hill Equestrian Limited said it was concerned for the beef and dairy farmers in the immediate area.

Despite all precautions the organisers were trying to take, ikt had become inconceivable to go ahead, they said.

Joint organiser Roland Clarke said: "We are very sorry this has become necessary and hope that everyone understands our reasons for taking the decision.

"We are grateful to all our supporters and hope to see them all next year at Borde Hill Trials 1 on May 25-26. Unlike 2001, when foot and mouth brought a four year break, this time we will weather this setback and return next year better than ever."
