The run, which is famous for its beautiful views but painfully challenging hills, uses the tracks and trails of the Goodwood Estate and climbs three of the steepest hills in the South Downs National Park.

Now in its third year and well established on the local calendar, the event is sponsored by local property agents Tod Anstee. Sam Tod and John Anstee created Tod Anstee LLP in 2009 and both live in the Lavant Valley.

The race raised more than £2,500 for Singleton Primary School. Christopher Todd, head teacher said: “We are so grateful to all the runners, who come from all over the south of England, for supporting the school in this way, and we would particularly like to thank Tod Anstee for supporting a great local cause with their sponsorship.”

Winner of the men’s race was Matt Jolly of Portsmouth Triathletes, who conquered the gruelling hills in an impressive 55 minutes. Shortly behind him were valley residents Damian Crawford and Sam Adams, who both passed the finish line under the hour.

Linda Tombs of Fittleworth Flyers came in first for the women for the second year running, shortly followed by Miranda Angelides of Bognor Rotary AC and Sam Hook, also a valley resident and a member of Chichester Westgate Triathlon Club.

Local running clubs were out in force with a great turn-out from Chichester Runners and AC, Stubbington Green Runners, Portsmouth Joggers and Worthing Striders.

Once the run was over, participants relaxed in the sun with coffee and cake provided by families of the school. It was agreed the race was once again an enormous success, with overwhelmingly positive feedback.

Jane Adlard said: “What a lovely race! Thank you, route was beautiful, support great and a really nice medal (and cakes). It’s on my calendar for next year.”

Cannicross runner Jenny Barragan added: “It’s such a lovely atmosphere. We really enjoyed it, and so did our dogs!”

Organisers thanked all those who took part and supported the event and announce that the 2016 race will take place on Saturday, September 17.
