The RH Hall Foundation Stakes went to Moore’s mount Grandeur for the second straight year, the five-year-old gliding to a two-length victory in the listed race after biding his time perfectly.

Trainer Jeremy Noseda was delighted and said: “It didn’t look like the ground had good to firm places, but I’m happy he has done it. In all honesty, he was the best horse in the race.

“I’ll talk to his owner, Yvonne Jacques, but I think he will now go for the Canadian International at Woodbine. There are other possible races over there, you’re trying to find good prize money but it’s an expense to do it.

“He stayed over in America for three runs earlier in the year and earned $160,000. Then we’ll be back on the all-weather this winter.”

Grandeur went off 4/5 favourite and was a comfortable winner ahead of Danadana, riddent by Andrea Atzeni, while third was Marsh Daisy, who ran a good race but couldn’t repeat the heroics seen at Goodwood in May when winning the Height of Fashion Stakes.

Just over an hour later, Moore completed the double as he guided another favourite, the 4/1 contender Good Luck Charm, trained by his Sussex-based father, to victory in the Bidvest 3663 handicap. Good Luck Charm was one of two winners tipped on this website this morning.

The Moores weren’t the only Sussex camp celebrating as crowds enjoyed an afternoon of decent racing in the autumn sun and a light breeze on the Downs, whioch has seen showers just an hour or two before racing.

Noble Gift, trained by Angmering’s William Knight and owned by the local Gail Brown Racing outfit, took the Gentrack Velocity handicap in a thrilling finish, beating Jacob Cats by a neck.

Elsewhere Atzeni rode Ameriocan Artist, the 15/8 favourite, to a one-length success in the British Stallions Stud EBF Maiden Stakes for trainer Roger Varian - the well-known handler’s first Goodwood win of 2014.

The market leader also prevailed in the WaterAid EBF Stallions Maiden Stakes as James Doyle - who has had an excellent year at Goodwood - came home first on Sir Michael Stoute’s Dissolution, also tipped on this website.

Martin Dwyer landed the Hildon Natural Mineral Water handicap on Serena Grae. The 4/1 starter was only a neck ahead of Spacelab on the line.

The afternoon’s biggest-priced winner came in the last, the Clancy Docwra Apprentice handicap as 10/1 fancy Dishy Guru won under Thomas Brown for trainer Michael Blanshard.

That leaves just one more card to come at Goodwood this year – the season finale on Sunday, October 12. See this week’s Chichester Observer (Sep 25 edition) for a special ticket offer.
