The start of the 2012 polo season at Cowdray Park Polo Club has been a washout, with only two matches played in the first two weeks of the Tyro Cup tournament.
The tournament, which traditionally starts the season at Cowdray, was due to begin on April 28 with the final scheduled for Monday May 14.
But by Tuesday May 8 only two games had been completed and consideration was being given to rescheduling the remainder as a ‘round robin’ – a shortened version – in a bid to conclude the competition.
Liz Higgins, the polo club’s press officer, said: “It is very disappointing.
“We should have had a dozen matches by now. People have got their ponies fit and ready to play but here we are, into the second week, and still not the first tournament played.”
