West Wittering cricketers kwik off mark to meet England heroes

TEN lucky kwik cricketers from West Wittering Cricket Club met England pair Steve Finn and Alistair Cook ahead of England's Test clash with Sri Lanka at Hampshire's Rose Bowl.

The England duo spent two hours with the under-11s and conducted an exclusive coaching session to give them their best tips on the game and pass on some of the skills which made them part of the England team.

The treat was organised through the ASDA Kwik Cricket competition, the ECB’s major grassroots initiative and the largest primary schools competition for any sport in the UK, involving more than 130,000 kids from around 12,000 schools across the UK each summer.

The West Wittering boys won after coach Shaun Standing took part in a competition in the News of the World and was lucky enough to be one of the two winners, along with the Hiltingbury Junior School from Eastleigh.

ASDA Kwik Cricket is a modified version of the game that involves a soft ball and keeps all players involved. It takes place between May and July every year. Events start locally and culminate in a national final that this year is to be held at Derby on July 20.
