ARUN

Arun Ladies 133 Camberley 94

Camberley arrived at Arun for a friendly and a great afternoon of bowling was enjoyed by both sides. After 21 ends, Arun emerged the winners.

Arun Ladies 118 Wealden 110

A close game took place when Wealden Ladies visited Arun.

Horsham ladies travelled to Arun in the Sussex League. Arun won on four out of five rinks and won overall, and collected ten out of 11 available points.

COUNTY SCENE

West Sussex A have played friendlies over the last two weekends.

They visited London and made a steady start, sharing the points in both the morning sessions to be level at 8-8 at lunch.

In the afternoon they stepped up their game, winning three and drawing one game in the third session and winning three in the final session. With bonus points in singles, pairs and triples they ended up with a very satisfying 27-13 win.

In the singles, Crablands’ Mollie Back lost 12-10 and won 18-10. In the triples, Infinity’s Denise Kirby won 7-6 and 11-8 and in the fours, Crablands’ Elaine Sadler lost 13-10 and won 8-7.

After that they entertained Kent, very strong opponents, and started slowly, winning just one game in the first session and two in the second to be 10-6 down at lunch.

In the afternoon they picked up, winning three games in the third session and two in the final session, which left the teams at 16-16 on game points.

However West Sussex picked up the bonus points in the pairs and the fours and shared the bonus points in the triples which gave them a well-earned 21-19 victory.

In the singles, Crablands’ Mollie Back lost 15-6 and 17-9. In the pairs, Bognor’s Betty Williams and Marlene Steel won 18-9 and 12-11.

In the triples, Lavant’s Jackie Lee with Crablands’ Elaine Sadler and The Martlets’ Ivan Salmon lost 11-9 and won 9-5, while in the other triple, Infinity’s Denise Kirby lost 10-9 and 13-12.

In the fours, Crablands’ Rod Shambrook won 9-5 and lost 8-5 and Bognor’s Pam and Clive Andrews won 8-7 and 10-1.

NYETIMBER

Nyetimber held their annual presentation lunch at the Bear Inn, Pagham, and all summer league winners were presented with their trophies.

This year there was a new trophy, the Arthur Guppy Cup, which was won by Freddie Kaucher.

Nyetimber Green visited Bognor Silvers and took four points – winning on one mat but losing on mat two and winning overall 47-34.

The friendly was won by Bognor Silvers 35-12 but this was a first win away at Bognor for Nyetimber.

SOUTHBOURNE

Southbourne held a two-wood triples competition. Eighteen bowlers were randomly selected into six triples. Each triple played three games of six ends and the top four bowled in semi-finals followed by the final.

In a close-fought final, Eileen Keane, Rod Bull and Dave Alner beat Alan Shelley, Margaret Odell and Rob Armstrong 6-3.

LAVANT

Lavant B visited Comptons in the third round of the County League. Mat one saw Comptons win seven of eight ends to go nine shots up. Lavant responded by winning most of the remaining ends but ended two shots down.

On mat two, Lavant were chasing all the way but could not catch up, Comptons scoring five shot ends twice to win by nine shots.

Comptons won 43-32.

Lavant Red went to face the Mannings Heath White Squirrels.

With Red struggling on both mats to find consistency, Squirrels were soon well ahead. Red did improve, but by then the match was already lost.

FITTLEWORTH

Fittleworth took two of the six points on offer from their trip to Lavant.

Crablands Bitterns visited Nyetimber Gold and won on both mats, gaining all six points.
