Woodroffe takes over as Sidley skipper

SCOTT Woodroffe is the new captain of Sidley Cricket Club following Peter King's decision to step down.

King, who has been in charge of the team for a year and a half, relinquishes the role in time for Saturday's (June 29) game against Lewes.

"It was already decided that I wasn't going to be captain next season, so I thought maybe it was a reasonable time now to hand it over," he explained.

"We're halfway through the season, it's unlikely we're going to win promotion so there's not the pressure to get results every week."

His replacement takes charge just as Sidley would appear to be turning the corner following a poor start to the season.

Woodroffe said: "Peter has a few work commitments so it is a good opportunity for me to have a go.

"Lewes have the best all-rounder in the league (Kashif Ibrahim) and some might see them as a one man team, but it's only one wicket so hopefully one of us can put some pressure on him early."

Neighbours Bexhill have a rest week.
