Worthing III lost opener Tom Chambers (5) early on to Keelan Belcher (3-34) but then skipper Tim Dunn (47) and Glenn Harris (25) fought back with a 79-run partnership.

Then the Aldwick bowlers took over and took wickets at regular intervals. Pick of the bunch was John Young (4-39), with good support from Adam Robinson (1-32).

Victory was always in Aldwick’s sights and skipper Joel Lodge (59) and Dean Stokes (28) put their side firmly in the driving seat with a 114-run opening partnership.

Further contributions from Adam Rutter (29), Amit Chauhan (17), and Keelan Belcher (17*) contributed to the eventual victory.

Worthing bowlers Jack Dunn (2-62) and Kevin Punter (1-29) made the home side fight hard for the home win which came with just nine balls to spare.

West Wittering v West Chiltington II

This hotly-anticipated fixture proved too much for the hosts as an early Wittering wobble contributed to a loss against a talented West Chiltington side.

WC were inserted and Tim Osborne took an early wicket, caught behind by Mitch Hackshaw. The batsmen settled and denied the WW bowlers but Ben Cook (1-9) broke the deadlock, having Elliot-Monday caught by Osborne.

James Staight (1-39) bowled his allotted 15 overs superbly, keeping the runs down and taking a wicket in the process.

Just as it seemed to be getting away from Wittering, Osborne (3-23) struck again.

At 140 for five it was in the balance but Alex Salmon bowled excellently and mopped up the tail, finishing with five for 39. West Chiltington ended on 165 all out.

Perhaps it was the complacency of the top order that let Wittering down. Gareth Lendrum and Carl Tupper went without troubling the scorers, as did Rob Gray and Richard Hammond later on.

Mark Taylor (17) played a holding role for a time and Mitch Hackshaw came in and hit a quickfire 59 to make the score look more reasonable, but when he was stumped, the game was over,

Wittering were all out for 117 for their first loss at the Millennium Meadow in four years of league cricket. Despite the result, Wittering remain top.

Goring III v Aldwick II

Division seven

Aldwick skipper Grant Wilson (4-57) did the business again with the ball, taking his season’s league tally to 21 wickets, but his side let him down with the bat as they fell 65 runs short of Goring’s 179.

Batting first, Goring were on the ropes with five wickets down but Aldwick allowed the home side to take control with a solid knock from Toby Johnson (48) and should have had No10 Chris Gleeson (34) out before he had amassed 34 valuable runs.

Josh Sargeant (2-24) finished off his spell by finally removing Gleeson with good support from Jordan Bist (1-22).

The Aldwick batsmen should take lessons from the young Jordan Bist, who made a hard-fought 57 to give his side’s final total a degree of respectability.

The home side’s bowling quartet shared the wickets between themselves and only two other Aldwick batsmen (Chris Redman and Declan Belcher, both with 14) could muster up double figure in a heavy defeat.
