Young Chichester fencers show their style to foil the opposition

In the under-14 girls’ section, Charlotte Beadle fenced superbly, narrowly losing the final by two points but winning silver – her third medal in three championships.

Young Angel Bull, the youngest competitor in the under-12 girls at the age of ten, was on top form with a brilliant display of highly-technical fencing to take her first Sussex championship title – an incredible accomplishment.

In the under-14 boys’ event, close friends Oliver Hayward and Oscar O’Hara put everyone else in the shade to reach the final.

In a classic display of beautiful fencing, the fight turned this way and that until O’Hara’s experience secured him another title, with Hayward claiming another silver.

O’Hara has beaten the previous record for the most Sussex titles anyone has ever won with this being his fifth, a wonderful achievement.

In the under-12 boys’ group, Sebastian Maxted competed in his first Sussex championships and dealt with all the pressure beautifully, fencing brilliantly.

Club-mate Isaac Jolley was enjoying his second trip to the championships and his experience showed. Despite it being the largest field in recent history, Jolley, one of the youngest competitors, mowed through the opposition and proved totally unstoppable. His fencing was poetry in motion and all the organisers agreed he was a very worthy champion.

With a grand tally of three golds and two silvers, the Chichester club had a wonderful day.
