Several competed in the south-east region series over the summer, with top placings in triathlon, duathlon and aquathon events across the area from West Sussex to Kent.

In the youth boys series the positions were particularly keenly-fought, eventual placings being decided only by the last event of the series at Deal.

The boys attended an awards presentation at the Olympic Park in London and Luke Campbell was delighted to gain first place in the series with close to maximum points.

Leo Stallard was a very close second despite an injury in the season. Both boys are students at Bishop Luffa.

The strength of the Chichester youth boys’ team was further confirmed by Jacob Cann finishing fourth and Adam Long fifth.

The ceremony in London was preceded by an exciting end-of-season duathlon between the London and south-east regions competing for the team inter-regional cup.

It was by invitation only, bringing the top athletes from the series together to battle for the honours.

Action was fast on the Olympic park road cycle track. After a strong cycle ride, Campbell clinched second place in the youth duathlon. The winner was Sam Hart, also from the south-east region.

Points gained enabled the south east to be this year’s winners of the cup.

Many thanks go to the coaches of the Chichester Westgate Triathlon Club.
