Arundel ready for spectacular Olympic Festival

ARUNDEL Castle will be the iconic background for an historic festival to usher in the arrival of the long-awaited Olympic torch, on Monday (July 16).

During the three-hour-long Olympic Festival, more than 1,000 schoolchildren from across the area will flood the streets of the town, and sing a special song to mark this year’s sporting spectacle.

Schoolchildren will perform a rendition of Aspire to Inspire, a song composed by musician Colin Martin.

The roads of the town will also be filled with choirs, street entertainers, barbecues and art work.

Expect a feast of musical melodies from the Littlehampton Concert Band and The Littlehampton Academy Steel Band, as well as dynamic displays from the local Glee Club and The Southern Starlights.

Other highlights include the expected arrival of Littlehampton RNLI’s Blue Peter Lifeboat, which will be moored on Arundel’s new pontoons, on the River Arun.

The sculpture Flame of the Spirit and other Olympic artwork by Ginger Gilmour will also be showcased during the afternoon on a stage on which the Olympic Flame will be welcomed.

Arundel town centre is likely to be closed to traffic from midday for the relay and festival.
